2G BioPOWER develops bioenergy propositions and projects with the ultimate goal of delivering fully fungible transport biofuels from waste biomass, and used tyres. These are known as "Development Fuels" and are highly incentivised by the UK's Department for Transport. Projects work mainly using gasification and/or pyrolysis which can now be delivered at a commercial scale, some including upgrading of output products to hydrocarbon fuels. We recently carried out a Feasibility Study for a large scale tyre pyrolysis plant with the support of a Innovate UK Grant along with input from a major US Oil Company. The results proved to be very favourable and led to the logical conclusion of an offtake agreement resulting in elements from used tyres being contained in fuel on UK garage forecourts from March this year.This is now further backed up with a similar offtake agreement with a major European tyre manufacturer for recovered Carbon Black (rCB) for use in new passenger car tyre production. 5/10/22 Michelin unveils two tyres approved for road use containing 45% and 58% of sustainable materials respectively.
