3Co Consultancy Services was established by Julia Erskine in 2019 in response to a growing demand for more energy-efficient homes on the Isle of Man and a change in Building Regulations that require houses to be built to better standards in terms of energy performance. In 2019 the Chief Minister declared a 'climate change emergency' and implemented changes to the law to improve the energy efficiency of all new buildings in order to reduce the built environment's impact on climate change and our local community. At this time, clarity was sought on how to best demonstrate compliance with the new regulations with solutions that consider good fabric standards (insulation, airtightness, etc.), low carbon technologies (such as air source heat pumps), and the use of renewable (such as solar PV). Seeing a gap in the market, 3Co Consultancy Services has partnered with a local MEP firm to bring these new services to the Isle of Man for customers interested in energy-efficient house design and/or needing to comply with the new Building Regulations. Our vision in starting the company was to offer services that meet our goals of creating a more sustainable Island with homes designed for the future. Our hope is that the Isle of Man will introduce further measures to improve the existing local housing stock by introducing Energy Performance Certificate ('EPC's')(a legal requirement in the UK since 2007) and introduce incentives for homeowners to undertake retrofit. In the near future, we are poised to expand upon the services provided to include retrofit assessment & coordination for existing houses and energy assessments for commercial buildings. Being the only biosphere nation in the world, we firmly believe the Island should be setting an example by building sustainable homes and improving the energy performance of our existing building stock.
