3D Research Bureau was first set up in 1989, and was re-launched as 3D Research in 2010. It is an independent research agency based in Liverpool. It is managed by Dr Russell Newcombe, and supported by a team of associates and consultants. It offers research, training and consultancy services in the fields of drug use, drinking and deviancy (the 3 'D's). 3D Research's main area of expertise is psychoactive drugs and their use, covering:(a) prohibited, licensed, prescribed and uncontrolled drugs (eg. NPS);(b) depressants, stimulants and hallucinogens; and (c) drug consumption, and its causes and consequences. More broadly, 3D Research also conducts research on deviant behaviour in the domains of public order (criminal and anti-social behaviour) and public health (notably mental functioning and sexual activity). Since 2010, 3D Research's areas of research, training and consultancy have included:(1) new psychoactive drugs (NPS); discrimination against drug users (intoxiphobia) and drug users' rights;(2) the UK drugs market - notably drug purchasing and drug dealing;(3) information products on safer drug use - including mephedrone, nitrous oxide and SCRAs;(4) stimulant substitution treatment (esp. dexamfetamine prescribing); and (5) harm-reduction models - for the design, implementation and evaluation of HR interventions. An annual survey of drug prices among UK drug users and dealers began in 2014, and a comprehensive study of NPS use in Blackburn with Darwen was completed and reported by mid-2015 (with Prof Fiona Measham and Mike Linnel).
