The company employs 1319 people in its three sites, Johannesburg (Head Office), Port Elizabeth, Pietermaritzburg and in eight regional Customer Service Centres. Our primary major customers includes Eskom, PRASA, Transnet, independent power producers, mining companies, municipalities, large and medium construction companies, amongst others. In 2016, Aberdare Cables was acquired by a Shanghai Stock Exchange listed company, Hengtong. Hengtong is a global leading power and fiber optic cable manufacturer. It operates in 120 countries, has 9 overseas manufacturing bases and owns 5 brands, including Aberdare. Since its acquisition the Hengtong Group, Aberdare Cables has modernized its operational business strategy significantly and positioned itself as Africa’s strategic partner of choice and an authentic agent of social change and empowerment. We recently launched its Port Elizabeth based High Voltage Cable Manufacturing Plant. This new industrial investment sees the expansion of Aberdare Cables’ manufacturing capability of cables from a current level of 33kV to a new product offering of up to 132 kV. Through this investment project, Aberdare Cables aims to establish itself as a leading and competent South African high voltage cable manufacturer and turnkey solutions provider.
