In 2024, Abraxas Energy Consulting became a member of the Hillmann Family of Companies. Abraxas provides specialized expertise in commercial energy efficiency services, including ASHRAE energy auditing, retro-commissioning (RCx), utility bill tracking software, and advisory services for energy managers, energy consultants, and Energy Service Companies (ESCOs). The firm also delivers Energy Star benchmarking services to support compliance with municipal energy ordinances in cities such as San Francisco, Denver, and Boulder. Founded in 2001 by John Avina, CEM, CMVP, Abraxas Energy Consulting was built on a strong foundation in energy performance analysis. Mr. Avina previously held roles at SRC Systems, Silicon Energy, and Johnson Controls, where his work focused on supporting ESCOs in meeting complex energy analysis and performance guarantee requirements. From its earliest days, Abraxas concentrated on energy audits and measurement and verification (M&V) software and services tailored to the ESCO market. Abraxas Energy Consulting is the master reseller of Metrix 4, a widely used software platform for tracking and validating energy savings. Today, it is estimated that more than $4 billion in ESCO savings guarantees are monitored using Metrix technology. The firm supports clients across five continents and has delivered energy management training internationally, including in Brazil, Hong Kong, Thailand, Qatar, Spain, and Bulgaria. As part of the Hillmann Family of Companies, Abraxas Energy Consulting has expanded its consulting capabilities to deliver more integrated, end-to-end solutions. Through collaboration with Hillmann’s environmental, real estate due diligence, building science, and construction services teams, Abraxas is now able to support clients across the full lifecycle of assets, aligning energy performance, compliance, risk management, and long-term operational goals.
