Founded in 1933 by Ben Press, Acme Bag Company began as a trusted supplier of agricultural packaging. The company’s legacy evolved in 1987 when leadership transitioned to Steve, who brought new energy and vision to the business. A pivotal moment came in 1991 with a strategic investment from members of Harris Freeman, fueling significant growth and expansion. Key Milestones: • 2005: Acme acquired Sacramento Bag Company and Baron Bag Company, both renowned for distributing erosion control, landscaping products, and packaging materials, particularly in the citrus, potato, and rice industries. Sacramento Bag, founded in 1923, added nearly a century of agricultural packaging expertise to Acme’s portfolio. • 2009: Geographic expansion continued with the acquisition of Mackenzie Nursery in Ohio, including a wire basket manufacturing plant in Perry, OH. • 2011: Acme partnered with Cherokee MFG of North Carolina, contributing Mackenzie Nursery to form Cherokee MFG LLC, becoming a major manufacturer of wire baskets.
