Objective dynametric manual muscle testing and range of motion testing is ordered to quantify functional loses evaluate patient’s physical performance, and establish a baseline functional level. Such tests may be requested for patients with suspected or actual impairment to muscle strength, power or endurance. Findings from these exams help objectify the extent of function loss, track response to treatment and/or modify the treatment plan accordingly. Identifying muscles or muscle groups with impaired function provides information for appropriate intervention. These may include strengthening exercises, functional drills, bracing, or compensatory muscle use.
