Acres At Warren Tech
ACRES farm at Warren Tech serves as an educational plot, where Chef-Farmer-Instructor Josh Olsen and Farm Technician Dave DeMalteris plant seeds, both in the ground, and in the minds of young people. The three acres of open space outside Warren Tech in Lakewood, owned by Jefferson County, were for many years used as grounds for 4-H activities, and poinsettia production. Just over five years ago, the potential for urban agriculture was fully realized by the chefs and specifically Josh Olsen at The Squeaky Bean restaurant in Denver, and the transformation to ACRES farm began. Now, with a team dedicated to the success of the 3+ acres, students from all over metro Denver are given the opportunity to make meaningful connections between 21st century academic knowledge, and career-focused learning. These experiences are springboards for meaningful careers in a natural system often overlooked in today’s tech-dominated world. ACRES farm at Warren Tech is devoted to showing the viability of urban agriculture while positively benefiting as many people as possible.
