Our Mission: Redistributing surplus medical supplies The Nurse Giving Back philanthropy aims to improve public healthcare in the third world through collecting surplus medical supplies and equipment from advanced nations and redistributing them to populations in need. We recover surplus medical supplies and equipment from industrialized world hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, manufacturers, and distributors, which we then pass on to qualified healthcare facilities in rural Kenya. We also outfit medical missions and safety net clinics in both Kenya and the United States. Origins: Shortages and surpluses Afrimedshare was founded by a Kenyan born nurse in 2012. The nurse recognized that medical shortages in Kenya could be addressed by medical surpluses in industrialized countries. As a philanthropic organization, Afrimedshare provides services without regard to the religion, political affiliation, race, or culture of its contributors or recipients. Goal: A sustainable model that reaches the underserved Afrimedhshare vision is to measurably improve healthcare delivery in the medically underserved areas of Kenya. To this purpose, we partner directly with existing organizations that are currently providing healthcare to the disadvantaged. After reviewing local healthcare environments, we target our programs to where they will have the greatest impact. Our ultimate goal is to find a sustainable model that will enable us to reclaim and redistribute as much usable surplus medical supplies, instruments, and equipment from American hospitals as possible. We will continue to redistribute this surplus to Kenyan hospitals, rural clinics, and refugee camps.
