Afrowaveto

While there has been tremendous growth globally in the culturally-driven sounds of Dancehall, Reggae, Soca, Reggaeton, etc, there has been little momentum in the Canadian market in relation to exposure and opportunity for artists within these genres. Toronto has a large population of African, Caribbean, and Afro-Latino creatives but this is rarely reflected in the music festivals, showcases, panels, or songwriting sessions held within the city. And, youth from these backgrounds need to see themselves reflected in the art landscape of the city. AfroWaveTO is trying to fill the void by not only providing a platform for local artists of colour to showcase their work but also with intentional programming and resources to help artists of colour navigate the industry.
