Aganippe Arts CIC is a non-profit, Community Interest Company, which manages large scale installations of thought-provoking and stimulating art exhibitions. We specialise in exhibiting historic and contemporary art in places of cultural heritage. We provide artists and curators with the opportunity to engage visitors with exhibitions exploring cultural and artistic heritage. As a Community Interest Company, our exhibitions are aimed at benefiting local communities and exhibiting art in a wider and more accessible context outside the usual gallery or museum setting. The purpose of doing this is to challenge the way in which art is thought about, viewed, and displayed to the public. Aganippe Arts is unlike any other arts organisation. It is not a museum, gallery, or dealer. Our business will work in what we see as the most important and exciting areas of these sectors without being held back by their limitations. An important part of our role is to lead audiences in thought-provoking and challenging new ways. We aim to ensure that our exhibitions promote thought and discussion, for both scholarly inquiry as well as for public enjoyment. Our team of curators have consistently displayed a unique and innovate approach to exhibiting, writing, and thinking about art. Our name derives from the fountain in Greek Mythology associated with the muses. Out of this fountain was said to flow the waters of artistic inspiration. Aganippe Arts CIC was established by Joseph Black, its current Managing Director, in 2016. Mr. Black's background as an artist, as well as art historian (Courtauld, MA), allows the themes and curation of our exhibitions to be as rich and complex as artworks in their own right.
