For many years, Bernadine and Philip de Souza have thought about consolidating their giving to make it more effective and supported an organization that focused on something close to their hearts? Ever since her early days growing up in India, Bernadine always watched the little orphan girls at the Mount Mary’s orphanage with much sorrow and sadness. She has always wanted to do something for young underprivileged girls, especially orphans. For Philip, it’s always been about education, the importance and need for a strong education. With a little inspiration from me and a lot of hard work, Bernadine and Philip have fulfilled one of their life long dreams – empowering young underprivileged girls in undeveloped countries one person at a time. We started with a group of 6 fifth graders from a municipal school next door to our India Office. These girls are from very poor families and until now have NEVER seen a computer or used a mouse. We put them through a six-week program teaching them basics, they are provided a meal after the class and the best performer will get a tablet to take home! Our India office works the night local time, and is not used during the day so this program works perfectly. It costs us about $450 to run a six-week class for six kids, and through economies of scale we are working on bringing the cost down to $300. We already have a waiting list and are planning groups of 12 scaling to a classroom setting with 30 kids. We are truly honored and blessed to have this opportunity to affect precious lives and hopefully one day support these kids to a Phd!
