Akaboxi Limited
The vast majority of the worlds poor live in rural areas of developing countries with very limited infrastructure. Agriculture employs 65 percent of Africa’s labor force and accounts for 32 percent of gross domestic product according to World Bank and Agriculture in Africa. In Uganda, over 80% of the total population lives in rural areas, women constitute 76% of agriculture labor force (OECD 2015, MoFPED 2014), and subsistence farming is, by far, the main source of employment. Akaboxi provides the community/communities with the most secure way of keeping smallholders farmers savings that are kept in boxes to be managed and monitored by use of a digitalized system that replaces the rudimentary way of keeping money in boxes and in people’s homes to a more secure, reliable and easy to monitor system. Akaboxi later connects the rural communities to Microfinance Institutions, Banks and SACCOS and provides agricultural inputs to support the small holder farmers.
