AKIM is Israel’s leading organization making inclusion and belonging a reality for thousands of individuals with intellectual disabilities. At AKIM, we don’t simply strive for inclusion – we create it. Founded in 1951, AKIM acts on the belief that every individual with an intellectual disability deserves the right to achieve their happiest, fullest, and most independent life. A Trailblazing Organization: • AKIM College, in cooperation with leading Israeli academic institutions, provides young adults the opportunity to receive a higher education leading to a career path. • A National Organization - providing services and support to Israel’s periphery including Arab and Druze populations at 67 branches from north to south. • Self-advocacy is about knowing and standing up for one’s rights. The ‘OUR VOICE’ Program includes 55 groups in all population sectors, each one guided by a facilitator. • AKIM created the first program providing young adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to serve in the army - Equal in Uniform. • AKIM is the only organization in Israel that recruits and trains self-advocates to serve on the Board of Directors, under the direction of Chairman Rabbi אקים ישראל הוא הארגון הארצי לאנשים עם מוגבלות שכלית ולבני משפחותיהם. הארגון פועל כארגון ממוקד אדם ומייצג את האנשים עם המוגבלות השכלית ואת משפחותיהם, תוך שמירה על זכויותיהם וחירותם. מיום היווסדו בשנת 1951, פועל הארגון למיצוי זכויותיהם, לקידום ולשיפור איכות חייהם ורווחתם של כ- 35 אלף אנשים עם מוגבלות שכלית ומשפחותיהם, באמצעות סנגור משפטי וסנגור קהילתי. הארגון פועל, להכללה (Inclusion) של אנשים עם מוגבלות שכלית בקהילה, מעניק להם כלים להתמודדות עצמאית וללקיחת אחריות אישית ומעודד אותם להשמיע את קולם ברוח "שום דבר עלינו בלעדינו". בהתאם לחזונו, אקים ישראל מקדם הטמעת עמדות חיוביות כלפי אנשים עם מוגבלות שכלית. הארגון פועל באמצעות מטה אקים ו-68 סניפים ומוקדי פעילות, הפרוסים ב-88 ישובים ברחבי הארץ, בחברה היהודית והערבית ומנוהלים על-ידי הנהלות הורים ומתנדבים בתמיכה וליווי של כ-900 אנשי מקצוע.
