Ako Space

Ako Space is a small community run independent primary school in Auckland, New Zealand. We are registered with the Ministry of Education to provide children (tamariki) between five and twelve years (year 1 - 8) with a learning space, as an alternative to traditional schools. We provide a playful, outdoor-centric learning environment. Learning is largely self-directed and fostered within a close community. Our approach is based on leading-edge research in neuroscience, creativity, psychology and child development. We harness the power of learning through play, inquiry and experimentation, both indoors and outdoors, to nurture the whole child’s growth and learning.
