Always Mercy

In Kenya, many preventable or treatable diseases become chronic, debilitating, and often terminal. By providing in-home and inpatient palliative care services, Rehema Open Door (our sister organization supported by Always Mercy) will serve the medically needy of western Kenya, helping them break this disease cycle and help people live more meaningful lives. In partnership with local organizations and county government health authorities, Rehema is training local community health workers and volunteers to provide services to home-bound patients needing palliative care. We will expand this work to include a state-of-the-art inpatient hospice and palliative care facility, named Rehema Open Door, that will provide the best possible medical care for those who can’t be cared for at home. This will mean providing doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, psychotherapists, nutritionists, community health officers and community health volunteers to provide patients a complete care plan. Our two-year goal is to have 40+ community health workers and volunteers trained in palliative care and working in their rural communities to support up to patients. And simultaneously, we will continue to build, and as soon as possible, begin operations at our hospice and palliative care campus.
