Redemption comes through a process of self-discovery. It is not until one begins to understand himself that he can truly find a peace and a love which can be shared with the world. This simple fact is not merely true for the individual, but also for the culture at large. We all must grapple with the concept of moral responsibility, and the basic conflicts between faith and doubt. In the novel, The Brothers Karamazov, the protagonist, Alyosha, watches his brothers suffer physically, mentally and emotionally. However, he does not allow them to do so alone. Alyosha guides and supports his brothers in faith, compassion and in love, in the hopes that they will know themselves and, in turn, find redemption.
