Am Bones
The problem of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system affects millions of patients around the world. Metal implants were the solution at some point, but there are several problems: • Physicomechanical properties of metal, other than bone, additional which implants loosen and require replacement, which necessitates reoperation • Integration of bone with a metal implant is not always successful • Metal, even titanium, causes oxidative processes and, in addition, various neoplasms We solve the problems described above by making implants from PEEK. Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is a colourless organic thermoplastic polymer in the polyaryletherketone (PAEK) family, used in engineering and medical applications. It was originally introduced by Victrex PLC, then Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in the early 1980s.
