Amandla Surf Foundation

Amandla was started in order to tackle the huge task creating an African World Champion and Olympic Medalists in Surfing. We are an accredited partner with the World Surf League in Africa. In order to achieve this goal the Foundation has the following goals: 1) Introduce Surfing to African regions that do not surf but have the waves and opportunity to become a surfing culture. We go about this task by first hosting a Professional Surf event in the area and then providing surf clinics and development support with local government and sponsors. 2) Support talented Surfers from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, that have a proven Junior Competitive Career, to achieve their goals of qualifying for the World Tour and reaching the Olympics. We assist with Management, Financial Aid, Sponsor Contracts, Media Exposure and PR. The surfers give back by running the clinics in new development regions. They come from similar backgrounds to the kids and are best qualified to inspire and teach them! We currently are working in the Northern Cape with our #NamakwaChallenge event and have started surf clinics in the small Namakwa Town, of Hondeklip Bay. Our next area we will be focussing on is Southern Mozambique. Our first Professional Surfer on the program is, Joshe Faulkner. A top SA junior competitor and SA Open Champion, Joshe is currently within striking distance of qualifying for the WSL Challenger Series. We secured Joshe an International contract with Billabong and he now goes on media trips with surfers like, World Champion, Italo Ferreira. We are currently looking for Financial Support, Vehicle Support and assistance with Joshe's travel and surfboard budgets.
