Amatte is a premium brand that tackles environmental and social issues. We work directly with African farmers to find ways to tackle gender inequality and promote traceability and transparency. We launched with sustainable and ethical, high end coffee sourced directly from female farmers across Africa. Amatte celebrates Africa’s rich culture and history of storytelling. Women are at the heart of Amatte and the brand is committed to helping them thrive both within its work and beyond, through its support for Amatte Foundation. Amatte is the culmination of a life’s passion for entrepreneur Amani Kiflemariam. She was born in Ethiopia – also the birthplace of coffee – and grew up in the UK with a deep appreciation for the beverage’s social and economic significance within Habesha society. Amani studied Law and worked in Finance in London before putting her talents into building a premium coffee brand that not only promotes African heritage but also benefits those hard-working, small lot farmers who nurture this precious crop. Amatte is committed to direct trade and female empowerment, thereby ensuring each cup feels as good as it tastes. Named after Amani’s grandmother, whose name means ‘lead by example’ in her native Tigrigna dialect, Amatte honours her honesty and integrity through its brand values, specialist roasts and enchanting tales from Africa.
