Americas Ocean Watch is poised to make a valuable contribution to the circular ocean economy by undertaking a global discovery expedition around the Americas to identify and support ocean innovators and researchers, and scale solutions to our ocean’s greatest challenges. Americas Ocean Watch is the new name for the expedition planned under the name Project Ocean Watch. This new name more accurately reflects our goal to help save ocean health and generate ocean innovation around all of the Americas with our focus on One Island One Ocean. Approach: Expedition: Complete a circumnavigation of The Americas using the 64’ S/V Ocean Watch, uniting experts and entrepreneurs in science, education and blue tech innovation to collect valuable data, engage in powerful storytelling and to support interdisciplinary environmental problem-solving. Ocean Innovation Challenge: Launch a global micro prize competition in 45+ ports to discover bold and passionate ocean innovators of all ages whose ideas, products and technology can make a rapid and measurable impact on restoring and protecting the health of our oceans. Impact: Discover breakthrough ideas and disruptive blue technologies that will contribute to a vibrant and sustainable ocean economy Generate 660+ days of compelling content provided by onboard scientists, innovators, educators and storytellers Conduct important scientific research to be shared with scientists from “pole to pole” Build the next generation of ocean stewards by reaching and engaging middle and high school students and their educators
