Amurtel Haiti

The mission of AMURTEL Haiti is to provide immediate and long-term support to Haiti’s most vulnerable women and children. Grounded in the philosophy and practice of yoga, AMURTEL strives to empower communities in the pursuit of economic sustainability, as well as social and spiritual fulfillment. For over 20 years, AMURTEL has been a leader in the grassroots movement for equality and empowerment in Haiti. In partnership with local leaders, AMURTEL has provided a home for children in need, education and health services, literacy programs, reforestation initiatives, micro finance and communications programs, as well as women’s leadership, yoga, and human rights trainings. In its two decades of collaboration in Haiti, AMURTEL has become deeply connected to the communities it serves, holding respect for local language, religion and custom at the heart of its work. After the Earthquake of 2010, AMURTEL managed the provision of supplies to a major area of Port au Prince called Vallee Bourdon. Since 2010, the organization’s focus has shifted from disaster relief to efforts towards long-term partnership, training, and empowerment.
