Art Hospitality Program

Indonesia is a country where STEM training programs are ever-present. It has come to a point where non-STEM programs are overshadowed; their role is undervalued in our nation's growth. ART Hospitality Program hopes to shine some light on the importance of non-STEM vocational training programs. Oftentimes, a country's growth and development is reflected through its service industry—the more Indonesia prospers, the better its service industry. Indonesia has a youthful labour force yet there seemed to be little demand for it. After asking around here and there, I found that even after the workers undergo these technical education and trainings, they were not equipped with the soft skills of hospitality. These skills include generosity, empathy, communication and interpersonal skills. In one, every and any industry - be it from the engineering perspectives to the arts - without soft skills, one cannot thrive. You may have great ideas, but without being able to communicate it well, work well with others, you wouldn't be able to execute it. And just as the hard skills to create such masterpieces is essential in work, soft skills are just as, if not more important in innovation. Surveys done by Google has supported the fact that soft skills are also key instruments to success. I hope that in the future, ART Hospitality Program can reorient Indonesia's perception of hospitality, and spread the need to learn these soft skills, to be hospitable. One by one, lives will be changed; and at the end, a whole nation flourishes.
