Art Vocal's represented artist, Reydel Espinosa was born in Holguin, Cuba in 1985 and grew up in the countryside. Thus, nature is very inspiring to his creation. He is a self-taught artist since 14 years old and graduated from an artisan school in 2005. He gained his painting techniques through intense observations, analysis, and emulations of great art masters’ artworks. He considers the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana his art school. Together with his own imaginative mind, he gradually shapes his signature style in surrealism, especially in the animal themes. The remarkable influence since the beginning of his surrealist creation is from the painter Hieronymus Bosch. He is keen on not only producing works with technical perfection but also with themes that inspire the spectators to reflect on their own points of view. Metaphysics is another topic that he is deeply interested in. This branch of philosophy plays a significant role in boosting his imaginative and subconscious mind. He currently lives in Havana and paints at the Carmen Montilla Gallery. His artworks have been displayed in Taiwan, the US, and France. Artist's Statement I feel species in nature synchronize and coexist in harmony without the participation of human beings. I love to create characters with a sense of humor in my artworks. Animals are given life with virtues and intelligence to do impossible things. For example, in many of my paintings, the apes are the protagonists as they are funny and mysterious at the same time. Mutant and mythical creatures emerge from my inner universe. I consider it is a sacred mission and necessity for me as an artist, to bring these inner images to light as they represent some unique spiritual value. I always try to express beyond rations, and beyond defined principles via transcendent animals’ distinctive features and acts. In my painting, creatures, living in another dimension or universe, have their own customs and civilization.
