ARTHEX, Due to complex partially natural internal processes and external influences, every human being sooner or later develops some degree of arteriosclerosis that can lead to serious complications like a heart attack or stroke. Regretfully this “normal” process of arteriosclerosis due to our current lifestyle affect us much earlier in our lives, increasing our risk to develop CV disease in the midst of our lifespan. Extensive scientific research using ultrasound imaging of the arterial wall, has shown clearly that an increased risk of suffering heart attack or stroke can easily be detected in such an early stage, that all kinds of preventive measures can still be taken in order to seriously curb the risk and or reduce it. This is the line of business Arthex is involved in. Arthex utilizes this simple non invasive imaging technique (ultrasound scan) to measure the wall thickness and calculate the “vascular age” of people, identifying individuals with increased risk. Following such identification, Arthex renders advise as to what people can do in order to reduce this risk. This enhances individual vitality, which might well be maintained in the longer run. Arthex uses state of the Art ultrasound equipment to record high quality images from several different segments of the carotid artery after which the arterial wall thickness is carefully measured from all these segments and compared to an extensive database. This renders the individual vascular age. A significant discrepancy between vascular age and calendar age indicates an either accelerated ageing of the vascular system and therefore an accordingly higher risk of heart attack or stroke, or the opposite if the vascular age is lower than the calendar age. Once people are aware of their higher risk, they should decide to take appropriate action to slow down and stabilize the process (mainly through adaptation of lifestyle).
