The asthma and allergy-friendly market is growing fast, but not all claims are created equal. Americans spend over $10 billion a year on vacuums, air purifiers, bedding, flooring, and toys marketed for people with asthma and allergies. Many of these products highlight features like “hypoallergenic” materials or “clean air” benefits. But in most cases, there’s no independent testing or clear scientific validation behind these claims. And that makes informed buying tough, especially for the 100+ million people in the U.S. living with asthma and/or allergies. That’s why, in 2006, leading medical experts (Allergy Standards Ltd) and the world’s oldest asthma and allergy patient advocacy organization (Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America) launched the Asthma & Allergy Friendly™ Certification Program. We exist to make things clearer for consumers. Our Program independently tests and certifies products that meet rigorous, science-based standards to help reduce exposure to allergens, limit sensitizing chemical content, and deliver high performance in real-world conditions. We don’t make medical claims. We focus on product performance - rigorously tested, clearly reported.
