Astrodome Tomorrow

We are a group of professionals who have volunteered to determine the highest and best use of the Astrodome and address other needs within the NRG Park complex. We hope to inspire others with the financial means, imagination and technical know-how to design, build and operate a unique world attraction in and around this iconic structure. The Astrodome, which opened in 1965, has recently been unused and falling into disrepair, though it is structurally robust. The Dome is within NRG Stadium Park, a larger complex that includes NRG Stadium, NRG Center, NRG Arena and surface parking lots for 26,500 cars. Harris County, which owns the property, has solicited ideas for adaptive re-use of the empty Astrodome. Dissatisfied with all the proposals, I set out to develop my own master plan, which has two main parts, a set of proposals for the domed stadium's interior, and a set of proposals for the property.
