Athensknitlab aims to promote the modern digital craft of knitting and connect technology, design and innovation with high quality craftmanship. AKL’s mission is to promote contemporary research and development of innovative knitted products and provide high quality, effective & applicable solutions. Athensknitlab is committed to ethical manufacturing, sustainable & eco- friendly materials while aiming to create original, human friendly, customizable & state-of the art products. 3D Knitting, the latest sustainable and innovative flat bed knitting technology, is at the core of AKL's modus operandi. With 3D Knitting technology, products are knitted-to-shape, waste is reduced significantly and also form and functional characteristics are optimised through zonal knitting and combining different patterns and structures within single piece constructed fabrics. 3D Knitting promotes ethical manufacturing through minimising waste, production time and after-care requirements. Expanding knowledge and capacity is an ongoing goal for our team. Therefore we always aim to keep up to date with new knit techniques and innovative ideas and we get inspired by the innovative work of the global knit industry.
