That figure is expected to increase by 50% by 2030. It's a staggering amount since Earth’s water resources are running low. According to figures from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), it takes 3,781 litres of water to make one pair of jeans, from the production of the cotton to the delivery of the final product to the store. That equates to the emission of around 33.4 kilograms of carbon equivalent. Around synthetic chemicals are used in the fashion, textile and footwear industry to turn raw materials into final products. tonnes, that’s around £140 million worth of used but still usable clothing goes to landfill every year, in the UK alone.
