In August Terry Dennis set out on a mission to start his own glass company. Their #1 goal was public safety and awareness. They felt that glass shops were not doing safe glass installation, and there were not “real standards” in the industry. In 2002, a group of glass shop owners and others came up with AGRSS. Now the industry has a safety standard by which to follow. The unfortunate aspect is that no one with authority is enforcing it. One of our missions at Auto GlassMasters is to educate our agents and their staff about what AGRSS standards are. It is with hope that they will then share this knowledge with their insured, to better assist their customers in making an informed decision when selecting a glass shop. If you are in need of having glass work done, and are also looking for a cheap price or in having your deductible waived, then you will have a greater chance of having the glass installed wrong; this will affect the way your car performs in a crash. Less than 20% of the auto glass shops are registered with AGRSS. Industry experts claim UP TO 70% of the windshields in the United States are installed improperly. When a shop registers, they are saying that they have met the AGRSS standards. Those shops are also subject to independent audits. Our goal today is still the same as it was in August A customer who understands the difference in safety standards, will usually make the choice to go with a shop that is AGRSS registered. This may facilitate industry standards that all glass shops strive to achieve.
