Lietuvos metų automobilis išrenkamas kiekvienų metų pabaigoje. Pirmasis toks konkursas Lietuvos žurnalistų autoklubo iniciatyva įvyko 1997 m. pabaigoje - išrinktas Lietuvos „Metų automobilis 1998“. Rengiamas pagal „Europos metų automobilio“ principus, jis sulaukė gero įvertinimo ir tapo tradiciniu.
