ASL’s prime function is to implement those parts of the entry control process relating to assessments of knowledge and skill of flight crew members and aircraft maintenance personnel on behalf of CAA. This is provided under a delegation from the Director of Civil Aviation to the General Manager of ASL (the “Delegatee”) Knowledge of the topics listed in the CAA syllabi is assessed through approved written or oral examinations. ASL flight examiners assess competency iin the skills listed in the CAA syllabi in an appropriate category of aircraft. ASL also assesses the experience of flight crew members and aircraft maintenance personnel (including overseas licence holders and Armed Forces personnel) to ensure they meet the minimum criteria specified by CAA.
