Əmanətlərin sığortalanması haqqında" Azərbaycan Respublikasının Qanunu 29 dekabr 2006-cı ildə ölkə parlamenti tərəfindən qəbul edilmiş və Azərbaycan Respublikasının Prezidenti cənab İlham Əliyevin 9 fevral 2007-ci il tarixli Fərmanına əsasən Əmanətlərin Sığortalanması Fondu yaradılmış, 2007-ci ilin 12 avqust tarixindən isə fəaliyyətə başlamışdır. Əmanətlərin Sığortalanması Fondunun yaradılmasının məqsədi banklar və xarici bankların yerli filialları ödəmə qabiliyyətini itirdikdə fiziki şəxslərdən əmanətə qəbul olunmuş pul vəsaitinin itirilməsi riskinin qarşısını almaq, Azərbaycan Respublikasında maliyyə və bank sisteminin sabitliyini və inkişafını təmin etməkdir.
