Backyard Saffron

Backyard Saffron produces saffron from the stigmas of the fall-blooming crocus, Crocus sativus, that we have grown in Maine since 2020. Saffron is a revered spice known for its unique flavor and aroma, glowing yellow color, and a myriad of potential positive effects when consumed or applied to the skin. Creating saffron products is a labor of love and involves hand-harvesting, separating, and drying the parts of the flowers which only bloom for a few weeks in October-November.
