Balance Research Foundation
The Balance Research Foundation (BRF) was created in 2009 to study issues pertaining to balance and lack thereof; it benefits from tax credits in accordance with American tax law. Equilibrium represents a complex and incompletely understood interplay between various elements of our nervous system. It develops concomitantly with the brain, our walking ability, and our neuro-muscular system. As they age, men and women find their equilibrium gradually diminished, to the point that they fall or become more sedentary for fear of falling. Rehabilitation methods have met with some success, but they target a population that has already demonstrated poor balance. Better to avert a loss of balance to begin with. The future lies in prevention, prevention that cuts across the many conditions affected (eventually) by a person’s lack of balance: diabetes, Parkinson’s, degenerative neurological conditions, to name but a few. It is the goal of the Balance Research Foundation to acquire the funding needed to finance research in all areas related to equilibrium. Research in this field is a multi-disciplinary task that the Foundation, in tandem with voluntary scientific committees, will coordinate. The Foundation will foster financial relationships with entities likely to benefit from research in the area of disequilibrium (medical insurance companies, for example) as well as industries and foundations supporting research for disease prevention and individuals whose lives and family have been touched by this disorder.
