Balkanist

Balkanist Magazine was an experimental, bilingual platform featuring politics, analysis, culture, and criticism for a smart international audience underwhelmed by what was on offer at the time. Our aim was to provide bold, uncompromising coverage of the Balkan region and everything to its East. Balkanist articles were featured in international media such as The New York Times, BBC Culture, and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, while our investigative pieces were reported on by dozens of TV, radio, print and online media outlets from across the Balkans. Due to our firm pro-democracy editorial stance, our magazine suffered from frequent DDoS attacks. Eventually, nationalist activists even misused our name to launch the pro-Putin sites "balkanist.ru" and "balkanist.rs" in a further effort to compromise the availability and public perception of Balkanist.net.
