Barak Fund Management, based in Mauritius, has been active since late 2008 and launched its flagship Structured Trade Finance Fund in February 2009. The Fund Manager manages the offshore Cayman Islands-based Barak Fund Segregated Portfolio of Companies. The company has historically been active in providing alternative short-term commodity trade and working capital financing solutions in Africa, and currently works with over 140 SME borrowers across more than 25 commodity sectors in 20 countries on the continent. Midway through 2016, the company expanded its activities to provide development and project financing across the medium and long-term debt and mezzanine funding space in Africa, establishing itself as the leading alternative financier for all deal tenors within the African Emerging Markets region. Barak currently manages 6 funds under its Barak Fund SPC Cayman Islands-based umbrella, and has expanded progressively to be able to provide a global investor base significant opportunities for emerging markets, non-correlated, USD-denominated investment solutions. The Barak track record speaks for itself, and the company's 2018 position is expanding even further to new and exciting prospects within Africa. With over US$1 billion Assets under Management, Barak is able to provide financing for borrowers that previously have not been able to source traditional loans for their trade, and longer-term operations. The company is also heavily focused within the Impact Investing and Shariah-compliant trade finance space and project development within Africa.
