Barbera & Champagne was inspired by the Italian song of the same name, made famous by Giorgio Gaber. The song is about two men from completely different backgrounds: one drinks Barbera and the other Champagne. Barbera was traditionally a wine drunk young by the agricultural workers in Piemonte who couldn’t afford anything else, whereas Champagne was one of the wines drunk by the rich and famous. Both men, who are lost in love, look for solace in the wines they drink, and end up swapping their wines with eachother. both are very surprised to find they enjoy the other's glass more than their own!
