Barcolana

Over two thousand boats in the water, thirty thousand sailors, three-hundred thousand spectators on the seafront. Since 1969 the ritual of the Barcolana is repeated and every time the emotion and the show are renewed. It is a world of people that celebrates the wonder of a sport in absolute harmony with nature. In Trieste, the only place in the world where Barcolana could be born, the strongest skippers, the latest technologies and the passion of many meet. Born as a club regatta, Barcolana is an event known all over the world thanks to its "open" formula: a regatta that puts great champions and sailing enthusiasts on the same starting line. In the last three years Barcolana has more than tripled the attendance at sea, between sailors and the public, and lengthened the duration of the event up to 10 days, becoming the regatta with the largest number of participants in the world. In the nine days that precede it, the port of Trieste becomes a space monopolized by sailing boats. The "Barcolana Village" stands out on the ground while regattas, sea stories, tradition and seafaring culture follow one another in the Gulf.
