Founded in 2009 by former Vogue Living Editor, Vanessa Barneby and artist and illustrator, Alice Gates Barneby Gates’ wallpapers give classical ideas a contemporary twist using subtle metallic finishes and often a wry touch of humour… From modern takes on traditional heraldry to gold-tinted collages of vintage photographs and a tongue-in-cheek toile featuring fashions of the last century, the quintessentially English designs have been used in projects the world over, and sit equally comfortably in period country homes as in hip urban spaces. London distributors include Liberty and The Shop at Bluebird, where Barneby Gates prints adorn the walls. October sees the opening of rug designer Luke Irwin’s new store at 22 Pimlico Road, where Barneby Gates wallpaper will be available alongside Irwin’s fabulous rugs, contemporary furniture by Somerville Scott and funky wallpaper by US-based Flavor Papers.
