Basic City is an ongoing search for fundamental values in city development, in both architecture and urban planning. We believe that the increasing complexity and persistent volatility of socioeconomic conditions call for a reduced and more precise selection of essential targets in city development. Ranging from strategies for urban shrinkage, employment in the contemporary city (new industries), city regeneration, community creation, vitality of public space, all the way to the rapid urbanisation, our designs aim at establishing identity and social cohesion. We insist on intelligent and adaptable, yet critical urban development frameworks. They reveal and focus on the key potentials and define the field for interpretation. As such they create a platform for constructive negotiation and consensus making. This secures flexibility of our plans to deal with uncertainties, constraints and time. It empowers us to aim at our ultimate goal – provision of high-quality spatial and strategic solutions to relevant problems.
