Beat The Burn

In 2024, the 400in4 Charity Ride was re-named to "BEAT THE BURN" to better represent all of the fundraising facets of the organisation.**ABOUT 400in4 ** The ‘400in4’ charity bike ride is an annual event, organized entirely by the Firefighters of Fire and Rescue NSW to raise money for a charity close to the heart of all Firefighters – the Burns Unit at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. The 2013 ride was the 8th consecutive event, and to date, the charity has raised over for the children within this specialist unit.**ABOUT THE BURNS UNIT The Burns Unit at The Children's Hospital at Westmead is the paediatric component of the newly formed NSW Severe Burn Injury Service. The Burns Unit is the referral Unit for all major paediatric burns in New South Wales, also caring for major plastic and general surgical patients. The Hospital admits approximately 200 - 220 children with burns injuries each year, ranging from 0 - 16 years from all over NSW. The majority of burns patients admitted are aged between 1 - 4 years and have received scalds from tea/coffee/jugs or bath water with older children having generally sustained burns from flammable fuel.**ABOUT THE RIDE Along the route, the group promotes and reinforces key FRNSW fire safety messages in the local media and presents displays and safety demonstrations at selected regional primary schools. The ride is timed to coincide with a major FRNSW safety message of ‘Change your clocks, change your smoke alarm battery’ at the conclusion of daylight savings.
