Benjamin Storch
Artist Based in Melbourne, Australia My work is inspired by dynamic principles found in nature as well as its computational simulations. My intentions originate in an empathic, kinesthetic sense of motion, both physically and emotionally - and my practical background channels this into the creation of static forms, rather than employing more dynamic, time based media. I primarily work in metal - silver, copper or steel. Alongside my own work, I greatly enjoy working with young people and communities to realise sculptural ideas for their environments. I also run workshops in complex sheet metal forming, following years of research into creating transitions of negative, anticlastic, saddle-shaped curvature. This was the focus of a PhD research project at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham (Birmingham City University) completed in 2004, and is further explored with every new challenging design idea. Rhinoceros CAD software plays an important part in my design, visualisation and planning process.
