Bermuda Zoological Society

The mission of the Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS) is to inspire appreciation and care of island environments through our environmental education, conservation and research programmes. BZS is the support charity for the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo. It funds community outreach projects and public events, award-winning exhibits, world-class animal care, plus top-ranked education, conservation and research programmes—all accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA). With the support of members, BZS is committed to encouraging future generations to become stewards of the natural world. We provide thousands of free educational experiences annually through the BZS Schools Programme, in addition to marine and terrestrial field trips, holiday camps and WILD encounters led by knowledgeable BZS educators. The BZS research and outreach vessel, Endurance, is a floating classroom for conservation education. Our year-long Junior Volunteer programme allows teenagers to get hands-on weekend or summer work experience at BAMZ and many have gone on to pursue careers in applied science, scientific research and related fields. Speaking of resesarch, BZS supports ground-breaking research—on marine turtles, skinks, coral reefs, frogs and toads—conducted by our own team of scientists. We share important data worldwide and participate in international projects critical to preserving fragile endemic species and endangered habitats.
