Berulo Foundation

Berulo Foundation, founded by Cyusa Ian Berulo, and created alongside the Berulo App and the Murengere Atararenga program, aims to promote education, provide humanitarian aid, support community development, train the next generation of leaders, and protect human rights. Growing up an orphan, having no one to turn to and facing the struggles of life all alone are what motivated the founder to try enlightening the lives of young Rwandan children from vulnerable families. With the goal to fight against poverty, hunger, and the lack of other basic needs among children, the Foundation takes a holistic approach, by providing the children with the means to become self-reliant and gain an education. One interesting story is that people could think that, before I started the foundation, I was copying another charity organisation I had heard of. However, this is not the case, instead, the idea came in mind when I was sitting in a church on Friday July 28, 2017 between 11:00 AM and 01:00 PM. We were 4 people, and while I was meditating, I started reflecting on my past and recognised that some people could be struggling as I did. Since then, I decided to initiated a charity organisation. The enthusiasm of creating the organisation was also pushed by the children I saw who reminded me of my darkest past. The children were really miserable that my tongue cannot explain. Therefore, I considered the foundation as an addition to the volunteering activities which could extend my impact on the community. The word “giving back to the community” is sometimes too demanding, but, some people understand that a gift of life is enough for someone to feel indebted.
