Best Practice Inc

Best Practice Advocacy Centre Inc (BPAC) is an Incorporated Society, not for profit organisation with charitable status. BPAC Inc was formed in 1997 and is a joint venture between the University of Otago (Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy) and South Link Health (Independent Practitioners Association). BPAC Inc has an independent Board of Directors comprised of three representatives from each of the joint venture partners. BPAC Inc has developed the bestpractice Electronic Decision Support System (DS) in New Zealand for the last four years. BPAC Inc provides support to general practice through work with Ministry of Health, PHARMAC, ACC, MedSafe, DHBs and PHOs throughout the country. BPAC Inc has international linkages with InferMed (UK), BMJ Publishing Group (UK) and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (UK). As an organisation BPAC Inc has a successful track record in providing quality service through stimulating programmes that are delivered in a safe environment to support best practice patient management practices. BPAC Inc view Decision Support as the future to supporting general practice and this commitment is evident in current activities. bestpractice Decision Support is currently being utilised in general practices throughout New Zealand. Bestpractice Decision Support System is a web based system that is accessed through a medical practice’s Practice Management System (PMS). Bestpractice is designed specifically to support general practice in the management of a patient’s health through screening, risk assessment, management and referral. Bestpractice- Augments the clinician’s knowledge and experience with high quality information at the point of decision making - Provides expert, evidence based guidance to both the patient and health practitioner - Provides clinicians with guidance customised to an individual patient’s clinical state- Recommendations for management are customised to the condition and history of the patient
