Best Start Communities

In 1998, California voters passed Proposition 10, placing a tax on tobacco products to fund children’s programs. First 5 LA’s commitment is to strengthen the collective will within communities, organizations, and systems to promote the safety, healthy development, and well-being of children prenatal to age five and their families across the 14 Best Start communities. Community partnerships – collectives of community leaders, parents, residents, and others – in each of the 14 communities have worked together to support each other and implement activities that support their vision for children and families. Today, First 5 LA is moving each Community Partnership into a regional and local network structure.
