Born at the intersection of academia and industry, Beyond EPiC builds on more than 30 years of peer-reviewed research undertaken at the University of Melbourne and through international collaborations. Our founders — Dr Robert Crawford, Dr André Stephan, and Dr James Helal — have spent their careers advancing hybrid life cycle assessment (LCA), developing robust datasets, and shaping sustainability policy and practice across more than 60 countries. Beyond EPiC transforms this depth of knowledge into practical, accessible solutions. Our ecosystem integrates data, tools, and insights to support environmental decision-making at every scale — from materials and building systems to entire cities. We make complexity clear, performance transparent, and sustainability achievable within everyday design and construction workflows. Our flagship product, EPiC Explorer, launching in 2026, provides comprehensive and consistent embodied carbon, energy, and water data for construction products and systems, enabling users to compare options, quantify impacts, and communicate results with confidence. Future tools will extend this capability even further. Beyond EPiC also partners with organisations through strategic consulting, custom dataset development, tool creation, and executive education to help teams build internal capability, benchmark performance, and embed sustainability into planning, design, delivery, and portfolio management.
