Bharath University

Founded in 1984 as Bharath Engineering College (Autonomous) and having been affiliated for a while to Madras University* followed by Anna University* (*State Universities) we gained University status in 2002 (under section 3 of the UGC act 1956) thus becoming an independent deemed university being known as Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER). We have been one of the most prominent engineering universities in south India for over 30 years and continue to be so. We have also produced many top graduates over the years. Having strong ties with industry and academia we provide students with resources needed to make them top professionals in their fields. We are accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with the highest possible grade of 'A'​ placing us on par with the other elite institutions in the country. Being located in the state capital of Tamil Nadu Chennai which is host to the third largest expatriate population in India after Mumbai and Delhi and also the only city in South Asia and India to figure in the '52 places to go around the world'​ by The New York Times (2014) we provide students with global exposure necessary to become global professionals. Chennai is also the biggest industrial and commercial centre in South India and a major cultural economic and educational centre. Therefore the opportunities available for students are endless. Also a metro and the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the country and the 31st largest urban area in the world it is therefore an exciting place to study. We are ranked in the MHRD's NIRF as 35th in India in the 'overall rankings'​ and 21st in India in the 'university rankings'​ for two consecutive years (2017 2018). Thus we are 7th in Tamil Nadu and 3rd in Chennai in the 'overall category'​ and 5th in Tamil Nadu and 2nd in Chennai in the 'university category'​.
