Bio Istanbul - Toki
Since 2014, Bio Istanbul is an affiliate of the Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKI). TOKI produces social housing for Turkey’s low- and middle-income citizens. TOKI has produced homes since 2002, including at Bahcesehir, site of Bio Istanbul. The remainder of the site will be home to Kanal İstanbul, a man-made sea-level waterway in East Thrace, connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, and thus to the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. The New waterway will bisect the European side of Istanbul and thus form an island between Asia and Europe (the island will have a shoreline with the Black Sea, Sea of Marmara, the new canal and the Bosporus), reducing traffic on the treacherous Bosporous. The Istanbul Canal (Turkish: Kanal İstanbul) is a man-made sea-level waterway, planned by Turkey for East Thrace, connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, and thus to the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. Istanbul Canal will bisect the current European side of Istanbul and thus form an island between Asia and Europe (the island will have a shoreline with the Black Sea, Sea of Marmara, the new canal and the Bosporus). The new waterway will bypass the current Bosporus.
